10 Suggestions for Putting Together and Excellent Application

Research relevant information:  Decide which scholarships match your skills, plans, and abilities.  Stop and access then apply for scholarships that fit you

Deadlines:  Be aware of deadlines, give yourself plenty of time.

Accuracy:  Read instructions!!! Then do it right!!!

Personal Survey:  Take some time to think about who you are.  Make a list of 10 – 15 adjectives that pertain to you and use them in your applications.

Feedback from those who know you best:  Ask people who know you well, add their information to your personal survey.  (You may not have thought about their evaluations, but think about their thoughts.)

Skills:  What sets you apart from others?  This is the time to toot your own horn (if you don’t know one else will) be scrupulously honest, but consider what the committee may think is important.

Recommendations:  Ask people to write for you who know you personally.  Who you choose to write a recommendation says something about you.

Essays and short answers:  Should provide the scholarship committee with examples of ways in which you have been successful.

Proofread, proofread, proofread:  ask your counselor, teacher, or parent to proofread and make suggestions.
